What you'll know

GO or NO-GO — with evidence.

DEMANDQ01

Is local demand rising or falling?

Search volume in the actual trade area — 12-month and 5-year trajectory.

MARKETQ02

How big is the real market around this deal?

TAM/SAM/SOM for the category in the metro — not the franchisor's brochure number.

TIMINGQ03

Are you buying at the peak?

Category trend inflection, new entrants, funding flowing into competitors.

COMPETITIONQ04

Who's taking its customers right now?

Competitor traffic, rankings, and the moves that put them on top.

ADSQ05

What do competitors spend to win your customers?

Live Meta Ad Library pulls: offers, hooks, weekly spend.

CUSTOMERSQ06

What do its own customers complain about?

Review mining on the target + rivals — the churn you’re inheriting.

ECONOMICSQ07

What does a new customer cost in this market?

Live CPCs and pricing bands — your real post-acquisition CAC.

GAPSQ08

Where's the upside the seller isn't pricing?

Unserved segments and angles — your growth thesis, with evidence.

VERDICTQ09

GO or NO-GO on this deal — and why?

A defended GO / NO-GO with risks, barriers, and a devil’s-advocate counterview.

How it works

From listing to decision.

01

Describe the deal.

The business, the location, the category. A listing URL or two sentences is enough — no NDA breach, the scan runs on market data, not the seller’s books.

02

We scan the market around it.

30+ live sources in parallel: local demand, competitor traffic, reviews, ads, trends, jobs data, news.

03

You get a decision report.

23 sections, 100+ cited data points, and a clear GO / NO-GO verdict — typically within 90 minutes, before your next call with the broker.

Who it's for

Built for people making
six-figure deal decisions.

Business buyers / searchers

Validate the market under an SMB acquisition before the LOI, not after the wire.

Franchise buyers

Independent territory analysis — demographics, competitor density, and demand for the exact trade area (data the franchisor doesn't control). Run it before discovery day.

Brick-and-mortar founders

Opening a gym, café, salon, clinic? Check the trade area before signing a 5-year lease.

Acquisition entrepreneurs / searchers

A defensible market memo to attach to your deal package for LPs.

Lenders & investors in SMB deals

A market sanity check on deals crossing your desk, typically within 90 minutes.

Operators expanding

New location, new geo, new vertical: scan it before committing capex.

Your Decision Report

What's inside your market decision report.

Not just a summary. A structured market scan built to help you decide whether to build, launch, pitch, expand, or reposition — with up to 23 sections, 100+ cited data points, and live signals from 30+ sources.

The financial review vs. the market review — illustrative example

Same deal, two different answers.

The listing answers

“Should I buy this gym? Books show $190K SDE, asking $480K.”

Revenue, adjusted earnings, and the seller's own growth projections — numbers the seller chose to present.

vs
IdeaCrystal answers
  • · gym searches in that zip −38% / 24mo
  • · two boutique entrants ranking above the target
  • · review velocity falling 11 straight months
  • · members on legacy 2019 pricing
  • · category CPC up 40% — your replacement cost

Verdict: 44 / 100 · NO-GO at this price — renegotiate or walk.

A business can look strong in last year's numbers even as its local market shrinks. The financials show what it earned. The market data shows what it's likely to earn next — in the same trade area, against the same competitors.

We thought the space had demand. Report showed competitor traffic patterns we hadn't noticed. Switched our angle that same week.

Needed to know which verticals had real pull before committing resources. The traffic and spend breakdown made the call pretty fast.

Ran one before expanding into a new geo. Search intent was 3x what we expected in the market we almost skipped. Changed the rollout.

I work with founders stuck between 'good idea' and 'real business.' One of my clients ran a report and stopped debating. We could finally talk about which version to build.

Friend asked me to gut-check his startup idea. Usually that means a weekend of Googling. Sent him here instead. Got actual demand data and a recommendation back. Saved me the weekend.

Founder noteA personal letter~2 min read

Built by a founder who learned this the hard way.

I built IdeaCrystal because I know how easy it is to confuse a good-sounding idea with a good business decision.

Hi, I'm Adir. As a technical founder, I could build almost anything. That was part of the problem. The hard part was knowing which direction had real market pull before committing months of work, budget, or team focus.

I burned cycles on ideas that sounded good in conversation but had no real signal underneath. I learned the hard way that conviction without evidence is just confidence, and confidence is expensive when the market isn't there.

IdeaCrystal is the tool I wanted before making those calls: live market signals, competitor reality, demand data, customer pain in their own words, and a clear recommendation, all in one report you can read in 60 minutes and defend in a decision room.

If you're weighing a real move, whether building, launching, pitching, expanding, or repositioning, I want this report to be the one you wish you'd had. Questions, feedback, edge cases? Find me below. I read every message.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask.

Can you scan a specific local business, not just a category?+

Yes. Give us the business type and trade area (or the listing URL). The scan pulls local search demand, nearby competitors, their reviews and traffic, and category trends for that specific market.

Do you need the seller’s financials?+

No — and that's the point. This covers the market side of due diligence: independent data from public sources (search trends, competitor listings, reviews, job postings, news), not anything the seller supplies. Pair it with your financial or QoE review.

Is this a replacement for a QoE or legal due diligence?+

No. A QoE review checks the seller's financial records. A lawyer checks the contract and legal risk. IdeaCrystal checks the market around the business: local demand, competitors, customer reviews, and pricing. Most failed acquisitions pass the financial and legal review and fail on the market.

How is this different from the franchisor’s territory analysis?+

Theirs is produced by the party selling you the territory. Ours pulls from 30+ sources they don't control, and includes a devil's-advocate counterview.

How fast can I get it before a call with the broker?+

Typically within 90 minutes of submission. Many buyers run it between receiving the listing and the first call.

Run the market check before you sign.

One report: local demand, competitors, customer reviews, pricing, and a GO / NO-GO verdict.
